Snow Fence/ Shadow Shot

Snow fence blocking drifting snow but letting light through

FYI: If your looking for Camera Critters, it's here

It was a frigid day, true, but a gorgeous one for taking shadow shots. The sun was bright, hoar frost clung to vines and branches, snow had blown into soft drifts...and I had my camera.

This rickety snow fence seems to be held up by vines. I suspect the fence is a permanent installation. (Most come down and are stored away after the snow season is over.) So it seems appropriate to me that the shadows seem darker than (or are at least as dark as) the fence. What do you think?

Frost on Cedar/ Macro Monday

Hoar Frost on a very cold morning (-21°C or well below zero Fahrenheit)

Unfortunately I left the house with my zoom lens and NOT my point-and-shoot Canon with it's nifty super-macro feature, so the hoar frost is not as crisp as it could be. Nothing was covered with frost near our home, but north towards Lake Simcoe super-saturated air had frozen on everything still in the shade. It was a fairyland.

I was particularly smitten by the lovely frost on the blue-green cedar, took the shot and hoped for the best.

shed, fence and and shadow/ Shadow Shot

The shadow looks almost like I added it with a paint brush, but really Mother Nature did it!

Hoar Frost/ Macro Monday

Close up of hoar frost caused by below zero temperatures that froze supersaturated air into ice crystals on...

a drainage grate. Yep, is sure was cold. But not frigid enough to stop my trigger-happy camera finger from taking a couple of shots.
