Belted KINGFISHEFRS are medium-sized birds that live near rivers, lakes and saltwater estuaries where they are sometimes spotted sitting on tree limbs or on power wires searching for fish, lizards or insects.
They live across southern Canada and in fact used to be on the back of Canada's five dollar bill.

The berries are very red now and stand out above the green leaves. I took this photo a week or so ago and noticed today that some sumac leaves are now quite yellow, orange and red, especially north of here.
