Morning Sky/ Sky Friday
Early Morning
Any sun we've seen lately has been in the early morning BEFORE winds carry moisture from the unfrozen Great Lakes our way, which creates overcast skies.

X/ ABC Wednesday
XMAS decorations
I figure this is NOT a very original X post for this time of year. :)
An explanation of the X for people who think the X takes Christ out of Christmas. X is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ, so XMAS is simply shorthand for Christmas.

Fish Hatchery/ Mosaic Monday
Fish hatchery, Upstate New York
OK, truth be told, these photos were taken in late November...but it was almost cold enough that day for it to be the end of December. :)

Hmmm. Is Santa bringing presents or taking them away? He appears to be sneaking around. You better remember to be good...VERY good.

Tree in Forest/ Mosaic Monday
Tree decorations in York Regional Forest
Every year someone anonymously decorates a tree in York Regional Forest...and every year I take photos of it! Some of the decorations are the same from year to year but this year there was a lovely decorated cookie. OK. It's not edible...but it LOOKS like a cookie, don't you think?

VIADUCT over Parry Sound, Ontario
I had to reach into my archives for this one, a photo taken last summer on a day trip to Parry Sound. I was standing near the viaduct on the other side, fascinated by the shapes that make up the bridge, when I heard a rumble that got louder and louder.
I finally realized it was a train I heard so I rushed to this side to get a photo of the engine but...I was too late.
Ha! Then I saw the freight cars bearing Canadian Tire products. Every town of any size in Canada has a Canadian Tire store! (True, not MY town, but there are are at least five stores within half an hour of my house.)
FYI: Canadian Tire stores carry much more than automotive products. They also carry tools, electronics, kitchen and bath products, sports and recreation equipment...and lots more.

Bracebridge/ Sunday Bridges
The Silver Bridge, Bracebridge, Ontario
The Silver Bridge has two lanes that cross the Muskoka River over a dam controlled by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission. I took this photo a few weeks ago. I suspect there are many icicles there now.

Burleigh Falls
Lower Buckhorn Lake, Ontario
Last Saturday was an overcast day but Environment Canada promised sunshine. My husband and I wanted to take a road trip so we headed east hoping against hope that the weather people knew better than we suspected. How do you like the sun so far?
Luckily this wasn't just a photo trip! We were also on a mission to visit some of our favourite used book stores in Peterborough.
After visiting the bookstores we headed northeast towards Lower Buckhorn Lake and the Burleigh Falls lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway.
Perry Creek
The water was high as the area had received more than two inches of rain in a short period. Notice the utility poles standing in water.
Rapids
Believe it or not, in summer the water is low enough to wade across this creek and...A rocky island in the creek
many people picnic on the islands.
