Red trillium (Trillium erectum)
In early spring before the leaves appear on the trees above, the forest floor is covered in wildflowers. And among the many blossoms are the many trilliums, white blossoms and, less frequently, red. Even though the one pictured above is splashed with a bit of mud, it's still beautiful to my eyes.

I think the trillium's are my favorite woodland flower.
Very pretty, but is this the one you told us earlier this week has a nasty smell?
I've been looking for Trilliums to photograph. I haven't been out in the last few days because of the rain. The rain is really making the trees and plants popup.
I have never seen a red one. Thanks for sharing ver;y beautiful
Very beautiful shot of a beautiful woodland flower. MB
Beautiful! :)
Pretty shot! I love the way you framed the flower.
Beautiful closeup!
A red wildflower - how neat.
Carletta's Captures
I always though trillium were white but since they don't grow here in any color, what do I know?

Live in the Moment
I've not chanced upon a red trillium before, and this is a very elegant shade of red, too.
That red is very showy - a good way to celebrate spring!
Beautiful!
This is the 2nd trillium shot I saw today. The other was purple. It is very pretty in red too.
To each his own...in my view many "wild" flowers are prettier than home-grown or "tame" ones! These would sure brighten up a forest floor!
Wonderful post!

I lived on 23 for a brief time during my teenage years. Our property was covered in Trillium's (mostly whites and pinks).
They aren't as prominent on the landscape these days, but now that they're protected by law maybe they'll become more prolific.
Very beautiful image. This is a great blog. Well done!
Beautiful! I have never seen a red trillium, only white. Thanks for sharing.
Really lovely! (am trying to catch up with folks today... am off to look at your bloodroot flower post next)
