Flag/ My Town Shoot Out

The national flag of Canada a.k.a. the Maple Leaf

This weeks challenge: flag

Although Americans celebrate Flag Day on June 14, Canada's Flag Day is observed annually on February 15, commemorating the adoption of the Maple Leaf on February 15, 1965. Here the flag waves over a marina on Lake Simcoe.

But the Maple Leaf is not the only flag seen flying over Ontario.  Ontario provincial offices also raise the

Canadian flag on the left, Ontario provincial flag on the right

...Ontario flag.

What's more, municipal offices fly their own flags.

And now for something completely different:

Blue flag iris

I like the reflection in the second photo. I found out the other day that I have some iris growing in my yard...woohoo! I need to walk around more but the heat (90°+) is unbearable...I shouldn't complain, at least it's not snowing.

The Canadian flag is just splendid...colorful, simple and the maple leaf is a perfect addition!

We've got state and local flags, too. I'm not sure that's a good idea - somehow we've got to finally accept the notion that we're all in this together and that we're all in the same human family and accentuate the similarities and try to negate the differences which are often superficial anyway!

At least the Canadian flag is easy to recognize; I'm not good at recognizing flags.

Yes the second picture is very nice photography. I thought about the flower flags too but mine are already gone. Great job.

Hi Doreen, I have a story to go along with your "Blue Flag" iris. Eleven years ago when my Dad and step-mother celebrated their 25th anniversary, my neice Amanda dug a blue flag out of a ditch near the cottage and planted it in her Grandma's flower bed. That lone iris has now be come a clump that reappears in that same bed every year. My Dad is gone and my step-mother is unable to go the cottage alone anymore but the blue flags are still in residence. Thanks for the reminder.

I like the Union jack, and I like the maple leaf - some in the confederation like Australia and NZ have the UK symbol in their fags. Yet the English influence in Canada does remain, even without the UK in the flag. I like your national flag!

Ralph said...

A typo - I meant FLAGS, not the UK slang for cigarettes!

I like that reflective shot, too...Canada really has a beautiful flag in my opinion. Not that mine matters...but I still like it.
