Orange/Friday Fences

Still on the beach last Monday, a snow fence

This snow fence is temporarily there to force drifting snow to accumulate on the beach rather than on the road and parking lot. When we were there last Monday, the wind was blowing like crazy, so I can see why the fence would be important in winter. I bet the removal of the fence is on the town's April to-do  list.

Cobourg/Barn Charm

North of Cobourg, Ontario

When I first saw this barn I thought it was no longer being used - the holes in the roof and windows - but then I noticed truck tire marks in the mud so now I'm not so sure. In it's day it must have been a hub of activity as it is a rather large barn. Unfortunately I was unable to get a longer photo of the barn without trespassing.

No whistling/Signs, Signs

Brighton, Ontario

I was tempted to whistle "I've been working on the railroad" but I was afraid the whistling police might hear me.

Canadian National heading westerly

Then a few seconds later - I probably shouldn't tattle - but this train DID whistle two short blasts just before it entered this intersection.

Picturesque JORDAN Harbour on Lake Ontario

If you squint you might be able to see Toronto on the other side. This is one of my favourite places this time of year to look for migrating ducks. No ducks the last time we were there but I did take a photo of...

Abandoned ship in JORDAN Harbour

what looks like a pirate ship. But it's not. This ship was originally (1914) a ferry on the St. Lawrence River but in the early 1990s the owners had a facade built over the steel hull to make the ferry look like the 1535 Le Grande Hermine, sailed by Jacques Cartier, and the ship began its second life as a Montreal restaurant. Unpaid dockage fees "encouraged" the owners to move this ship a few times until it landed in JORDAN Harbour. In 2003, a fire set by vandals burned much of the wooden details.

Shadows of the elaborate trim on a fancy house in an upscale area on Lake Simcoe.

Green/My Town Shoot Out

Entering the Greenbelt

This week's My Town Shoot Out challenge: GREEN

It's not looking very green in this photo, but the sign is one of the first travelers see entering Canada from the bridge at Queenston, New York.

Greenbelt: in theory, some of the land surrounding cities and built-up areas is supposed to remain undeveloped, wild or agricultural.

 Red arrow: East Gwillimbury

I live in an area that is protected by Ontario's Greenbelt Act and the Lake Simcoe Protection Act.  I hope at least one of these acts has enough clout to keep us green for a long, long while.

Green barn and green grass

I wonder if this farmer is Irish. Happy Saint Patty's Day tomorrow!

Dock E/Friday Fences

Dock E, Hastings, Ontario

I confess that I very much wanted to go out onto that dock but the sign said Authorized Personnel Only.  Sheesh! I wanted to get closer to some bufflehead ducks swimming on Rice Lake but... oh well.

This photo was taken a few weeks ago. Today there is NO snow there.

I guess the farmer who owns this barn is finished with farming because there's a realtor's sign on it.

Red Barn Theatre/SOOC

Birdhouse made to look like a well-known local theatre

Sadly, the real Red Barn Theatre burned to the ground nearly three years ago. It was Canada's oldest professional summer theatre, a landmark that had brought prestige and awareness to the community at Jackson's Point, Ontario (just north of East Gwillimbury).

To see more photos straight out of the camera, visit Jan's  SOOC at Murietta365.
