Cemetery/Friday Fences

Open gate to an old cemetery, Bradford, Ontario

I was attracted by the wrought iron gate and fence, and the stone pillars.

 Just before sunset

As you can see, the graveyard is attached to an old brick church.

Lake View/Signs

On the south shore of Lake Simcoe, Georgina, Ontario

This convenience store is open year-round, but this time of year it has a summery feel about it, don't you think?

T/ABC Wednesday

 TURKEY vultures

Circling TURKEY vultures are a common sight over busy highways this time of year. Roadkill, yum! But have you ever seen turkey vulture up close?

A face only a mother could love

Handsome, eh?    I don't think so either.

 What a profile!

Unfortunately for turkey vultures, their side views are not any better.

Balancing act

But hey! I bet you can't balance on a stick like this!

Red/Barn Charm

Under overcast skies

It has been unusually warm here and, although we've had cloudy days, we haven't had much rain. The soil is very dry, yet fields of wheat are still quite green,

Cedar Split Rail/Fences

Cedar fence

I happen to be very fond of cedar split rail fencing. Often you see barbed wire on the inside of the fence but not here.

S/ABC Wednesday

SAILBOATS, Cesarea, Ontario

Seems I am always on the lookout for reflections, and I just love how the masts are reflected in the water.

Barn and Pond/Barn Charm

Reflection in farm pond

This is a small "barn" attached to the house. The big barn is on the other side of the pond but I liked the reflection so it gets to be the star today.

Mountain bluets are blooming beautifully in some friends' garden, This one is having a slightly bad hair day which makes it even more attractive to me and my camera.

 Fence sitting

I guess this sparrow cannot decide which side has greener grass and better-tasting seeds.

R/ABC Wednesday

Fishing on Roseau River, Roseau, Ontario

This fisher is below the falls on the ROSSEAU RIVER, a lovely spot approximately 2 1/2 hours north of East Gwillimbury, where I live.

In this spot, the area is still RUSTIC, but surrounding ROSSEAU Lake (further up the ROAD and not in the photo) there are many "cottages" that are bigger, fancier and costlier than most people's year-round homes. (Personally, I think the opulence is obscene and a travesty, but I will spare you that RANT.)

 Falls on Rosseau River

The falls on the westerly side of the highway into ROSSEAU.

Rapids on Rosseau River

RAPIDS on  the easterly side of the highway.

Orange and Gold/Barn Charm

Sunset

This photo shows the typical cloud bank we've had lately, clouds coming off Lake Huron creating a grey band above the horizon. But the sky above the band was orange for a short while. I love how the light coloured the edges of the higher clouds.

Guardian/Friday Fences

Donkey behind fence

Both the fence and the donkey here are protecting a herd of cattle. Why a donkey? They don't like coyotes and will run them off if they try to enter the enclosure.

Q/ABC Wednesday

Quince blossoms

A neighbour has a QUINCE hedge and I look forward to seeing it bloom every spring. Aren't the blossoms lovely? Apparently, the Chinese consider quince blossoms a  symbol of good fortune. I think anyone who has a quince bush is indeed fortunate.

Historic/Barn Charm

Innisfree Farm, Innisfil, Ontario

This barn  was built in 1913 as a family retreat. (The owner was president of the Bank of Commerce, a major Canadian bank.)

The weather was great for a short road trip so we headed for the west side of Lake Simcoe.

Metal Wheels/Shadow Shots

 Old wheel, clapboard behind

A bright sunny day is so inviting! On a road trip I came upon this wheel.

And amazingly enough, on the same road trip...

Old wheel, log cabin behind

I found this.

Pickering/Friday Fences

Fence, Pickering, Ontario

The fence is a warning to not step too close to the edge of a little cliff onto the northern shore of Lake Ontario. You can barely see them, but dandelions are in bloom here.

Stop/Signs, Signs

Four-way stop read three..er...four ways

1. Some people recognize the shape of the sign...and stop.
2. Some people read the English...and stop
3. Some people read the French...and stop
4. And some people slow down but don't stop. Hmmm. Maybe they can't read.

P/ABC Wednesday

POWERED by the wind, Sea Breeze, New York

P is for POWERED

These photos were taken during Easter weekend when my husband and I were visiting relatives in Upstate New York. It was a cold, blustery day. I guess it was the blustery part that lured this kitesurfer and kite onto the water.

Cutting it close

The kitesurfer  kept moving in and out from the shore obviously enjoying the ride. He looks kind of close to the breakwater for my taste, but I was using my zoom lens, which probably makes him look closer to the rocks than he actually is.

 Two kitesurfers

Somehow they did not get tangled in each other's kite strings.
